Q: What is BHI's mission? A: Our mission is to stabilize lower income communities through the rehabilitation of vacant and deteriorated houses, to allow low-income families to become homeowners. To provide high-quality housing to low
and moderate income residents of Bucks County.
Q: How does you program work?
A: BHI uses a combination of bank financing, public and private foundation grants and loans to acquire, rehabilitate and sell or rent some of the areas most devastated homes. Our target projects include fire damaged, storm damaged, abandoned and dilapidated properties. In the case of re-sales, BHI assists lower-income residents by subsidizing the sale of the property.
Q: How much is your application fee? A: Our application fee is $50 for each applicant over the age of 18 on the application. You do not have to pay the application fee until your application is selected for a rental. You may fill out an application online by clicking the "applications" tab or stop by our office and pick one up.
Q: How long is the wait to get into your program?
A: We have an open waiting list and are always accepting new applications. Normally the wait is three to six months.
Q: Do you accept the section 8 voucher?
A: Yes we do accept the section 8 voucher on select rental units.
Q: Does a bankruptcy have a negative impact on me?
A: Not if your bankruptcy has been discharged and you have documents stating so.
Q: What are the minimum income requirements to be accepted into your program?
A: You must meet the income sensitive guidelines to be considered for our program.
Q: If I am single with out children do I qualify?
A: Yes you do qualify, for a one bedroom apartment as long as you meet the income eligibility requirements, are a senior citzen or have a disability.
Q: Do you have properties outside of Bucks County?
A: At the present time we do not but that may change in the future.
Q: If I live outside of Bucks County do I qualify as an applicant?
A: Yes you qualify, but we try to service the needs of our Bucks County residents first. Your wait may be a little longer.
Q: Does your program provide immediate placement for families?
A: Because of the lengthy application process, we do not have immediate placement for families. The normal application processing time can take 30 days or longer.
